Juanita Girls Select Player Contract

Mission

The mission of the Juanita Basketball Club (JBC) is to promote the development of basketball skills in young girls that feed into the Juanita High School. Through our program and teams, we help girls to learn the fundamental skills needed to play at an advanced level of competition with players of comparable age and ability. Through our advanced training, JBC drives girls to work hard, be accountable and to stay positive. We focus on the development of character, sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation, on and off the basketball court.

Who are JBC - Girls?

JBC is a private, non-profit organization. We are a volunteer-based program who is involved in the Juanita community with a common goal to improve the youth in our area through basketball. Our core values are: Respect, Accountability, Diversity, Leadership, Achievement, and Community.

Any girl living in the Juanita High School Learning Community is welcome to try out for the team.

Fees are non-refundable and will not be pro-rated for injury, geographical moves or expulsion.

The League and Teams

JBC is a member of the Eastside Travel League (ETL) and adheres to WIAA rules and regulations. The ETL league is composed of other feeder program teams on the Eastside. All other teams have the same feeder program guidelines, only players that feed into their high school may play for their program (unless a waiver is obtained for special circumstances).

Other schools in our league are:

Bellevue, Bothell, Eastlake, North Creek, Cedar Park, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Liberty, Mercer Island, Inglemoor, Newport, Mt. Si, Redmond, Hazen, Skyline, Woodinville, and Tahoma .

How Much Time is Required?

JBC is for girls who want to play basketball at a high level and whose goals include playing High School Basketball for Juanita. JBC encourages girls to participate in their local middle school basketball programs, and ensures the season schedules are compatible. Mandatory practices will start in October. All players are expected to attend practices and games. All teams practice twice a week with games on Saturday and/or Sunday during the season. Each team will play in 3-4 tournaments a season and the ETL End of the Season Tournament during the first weekend of March. The team may also qualify for the State Tournament in March, held in Spokane.

How Much Playing Time Will I Get?

JBC abides by the ETL playing time rules. There is no minimum playing time. Playing time is based on performance at practice and in games. Players who miss practice during the week may see a significant drop in playing time at that week’s games.

Priority Commitment

In order to be successful, all players must learn to work as a team and learn the value of being committed to each other on the court. JBC understands that sometimes life happens and there will be family, religious and school commitments that will arise during the season. Exceptions will certainly be made for those commitments. Since school sports are considered a school-related activity, we encourage them to attend those events. We encourage homework and other school projects to be done first before attending practices.

Completion of fall sports obligations

We encourage the girls in our program to participate in other sports. We recognize fall sport commitments sometimes run into the start of the basketball season. If a player has a conflict resulting from the completion of a fall sport, that player’s family should work with the coach in advance to clearly communicate schedule conflicts and will be encouraged to honor those commitments until the fall season has completed. Players will not suffer loss of playing time as a result of fulfilling their fall sport commitments. In the spring, we expect the same courtesy, that player’s finish out the JBC season and honor the commitment of our program before spring sports. Note: JBC takes priority over any other recreational, AAU or Select basketball programs. All kids participating in JBC will make practices and games for JBC the priority unless otherwise discussed with the JBC Director and coach. In each instance noted above, it is the responsibility of the player and parents to clearly communicate with the coach in advance of missing any scheduled practices or games.

Minimum Service Commitment

A minimum service commitment of 6-10 hours is required of each family to help JBC when we hold our tournament or another fundraiser. Parents and/or guardians are expected to volunteer to help. The proceeds from any fundraiser help fund our program heading into the following season. A large portion of the fundraiser will be donated to the Juanita High School Basketball Program’s Booster Club to help fund their program. This requirement is not optional.

Closed Practices

During the regular season, beginning in October, parents and fans are encouraged to come to games and tourneys to cheer on the team and see the improvement our players are making. However, JBC is a “closed practice” organization: parents are expected to drop off their players to work with the coaches and other players in a more concentrated, uninterrupted environment. Exceptions may be made on a coach-by-coach basis.

Player / Parents Conduct

JBC expects our parents and players to act in a respectful, controlled, and courteous manner at all JBC events. This includes, but is not limited to practices, games, and tournaments. As a part of this program, we are representing the JBC organization, Juanita High School, and the Juanita Community. Overall, we expect our parents to maintain control of their emotions and refrain from publicly criticizing the officials. Public outbursts reflect poorly on our program and set a bad example for our kids. Our coaches are empowered with full JBC Board support to ask players or parents to leave the gym if their conduct is unacceptable. If it becomes a consistent problem, they may be removed from the activities for the season. We have zero tolerance for poor behavior.

Zero Tolerance

JBC abides by the zero-tolerance policy of Juanita High School. Infractions at any JBC event will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension and expulsion from JBC.

Complaints and Disputes

Complaints are to be discussed with your team’s coach first, in hopes of resolution. The JBC board encourages all parents and players to implement a 24 hour rule before speaking with the coach regarding concerns. If needed, complaints, issues, or disputes may be escalated to the Director of JBC. You are encouraged to communicate your concern in writing. The JBC Board will promptly address the dispute and issue a decision. The JBC Board will not address complaints regarding playing time.

Uniforms

Uniforms will be the responsibility of the player to purchase. The link to purchase the uniform kit will be made available to families shortly after tryouts. Pennies are provided to use for the season and will require a $25 dollar deposit in the form of a check. We recommend washing them in cold water and hang drying to help preserve the life of the uniform. Pennies must be returned at the end of the season. If not returned, the $25 deposit will be used to cover the replacement cost.
